 About Rockside Builders

+ Where are you located?

We are located in Herbert, SK just off the #1 Highway.

+ How long has Rockside Builders been around?

Rockside Builders is a family business that was founded in 2009. Our staff collectively has decades of experience in construction and millwork.

+ Why choose Rockside?

Our size makes your project special. We are a boutique shop that specializes in great customer service and we take on the projects others can’t or won’t. We have computer design and CNC manufacturing capacity that allows for great flexibility with a wide range of finishes and products. We have skilled cabinet makers who love a challenge and can work in more complex methods of cabinet and furniture construction.

+ What are some of your manufacturing principles?

Unlike larger commodity shops cranking out 20-30 kitchens or more per day, we focus on one customer at a time to give the best customer service experience possible from initial contact, through design and build, and install. We don’t subcontract any aspect of the project including installation.

We also fabricate all our own doors and hardwood moldings. Your kitchen doors will come from the same lift of hardwood as the Crown molding. This gives great results, with a consistent look. Custom profiles are available.

We use Canadian and American wood products. No imported melamine. All our panel products are free of added Urea Formaldehyde. We do not use solvent based finishes or adhesives in our shop, so your home and our shop stays a safe place ! Our finishes are from Italy, and water based. The Europeans are 20 years ahead in this technology, so why not bring in the best?

We own our own laser templating instrumentation and are able to measure walls accurately for countertop and cabinets. This makes for a great fit and saves our clients the cost of bringing in a templating crew from Regina or Saskatoon.

+ Who builds your cabinets / cupboards?

We do! We build all our own cases and doors, and we also fabricate our own laminate and Solid Surface countertops. Quartz counters are done at the FloForm fabrication shop in Saskatoon. Many “cabinet shops” these days are actually re-sellers of less expensive “flat pack” product being imported.

+ What kind of service doesn't Rockside offer?

We don’t refinish existing cabinets. We find this a time consuming and expensive option to new cabinets, and most of the time customers will be happier with a transformation of their kitchen rather than a “re-finish”. There are companies in Saskatoon and Regina that offer this service. We also don’t install millwork manufactured by other companies.

 Planning and Inspiration

+ Great Design makes for Great Results!

Rockside works closely with a number of talented Designers in Saskatchewan. We encourage our clients to get professional design input to help get the most from their kitchen or millwork project. For those who already have a design, we are able to turn those ideas and rough sketches into a visually clear set of drawings with renderings.

+ Does Rockside offer Design Assistance?

We do offer a free Design Consult from one of 3 different Saskatchewan design studios for clients who contract our services.

+ What does a Kitchen Renovation cost?

Buying cabinets can be like buying a car. There is a huge range in features, quality and price. A basic kitchen in a pre-finished material and laminate countertops with quality European hardware would be around $14,000 complete. A high-end kitchen in lacquered hardwood, with quartz counters and lots of fancy features, carvings and inserts could be over $ 90,000. Most of our kitchens are in the $ 20-30,000 price range.

+ Why is my Rockside kitchen/job quote a bit higher than other firms?

Our goal is to use only the best products and hardware available, and to build cabinets that will last, be beautiful and functional. There is always a way to do things more cheaply, and many shops have gone in that direction. Our clients appreciate quality and understand that it costs a bit more.

+ Where can I view any photos of your previous projects?

Our website contains lots of project portfolio photos. We also use Facebook and Instagram to keep more current examples of our work and shop projects available for viewing.

+ Do you offer colour samples to take home?

We work with some great product suppliers and are always happy to supply samples for use during the design process. For customers who are wanting a stained wood finish, we work closely to develop the specific colour you need. (We mix our own stains to give great control over the results) For clients who choose a pigmented lacquer for solid colour cabinets, we match the finish to Benjamin Moore paint colours.

 The Process

+ How do I get started?

The best way is to reach out by phone, email, or through this form to describe your project and budget range. Share blueprints, preliminary design or inspirational photos. We can provide some rough pricing and for those clients who choose to work with us, we will work on more detailed designs specifications and drawings so as to generate an accurate final price.

+ How long will my project take?

Depending on work load, 4-6 weeks from completion of design and contract to installation. Quartz Countertops are installed generally 2-3 weeks after cabinets. Some materials are special order and can add to this time line. We do require a 40% deposit prior to start of production.

+ Can I install my own cabinets?

We always install your cabinets, so we have quality control over the entire process from start to finish. That way if there are any issues, we can get things resolved promptly. Corners are rarely 90 degrees, walls and floors often are not perfectly level or plumb, so our installers know how to work hard to deal with the hiccups of every project to ensure a great end result.
